Report relevant to the incident ------------------

'LOKKA' who came barebodied had played the devil at the police post

It is reported of a political bigshot of Gampaha who had come barefooted driving a Land Rover last night to the Yakkala Werellawatta Police Post and had frightened and threatened 2 police officers who had been on duty and had released and taken 2 individuals with him.

As reported, this incident had taken place around 11 in the night. At that time police constable 27700 Kumara who was on Traffic Duty and constable 82709 Tharindu had noticed a motorcycle ridden by 2 individuals without helmets and had stopped it. When they commented that that the motorcycle which was carrying 2 people had no license and insurance and while they were discussing about riding the motorcycle violating the law, one of them had responded saying "We are so-and-so's men" and had tried to beat a retreat. The police officer ignoring this had attended to inspection of the vehicle and then came across the license of the rider on a seat and when he tried to record the offence in the book, one of them had phoned someone from his mobile and on addressing somebody had said, "Ralahamy, answer him".

On this occasion the constable had refused to do so and carried on attending to his duties when after a short while suddenly a Land Rover had appeared on the scene carrying a gang of 8 people together with a barebodied individual. This person had later created a big uproar there shouting at the top of his voice.

This person then started shouting at the constables together with his gang and had gone to the extent of removing their caps and had also assaulted them in a manner that their uniforms too were torn. He had then got hold of the driving license and the spot fine issued and departed with the 2 men. The police officers identified the person as the Mayor of Gampaha and by this time the incident has been recorded in the Yakkala Police log book and it is also reported that higher officers had been notified about it.
