We don't know how Dharmasiri, Malaka were released
Min.Anura Priyadarshana
The discharge of the main suspect of the Kahawatta Case and hoe Malaka Silva who assaulted a Major was so released last week according to the instructions of the Attorney-General created a suspicion among the public. The suspicion was that such decisions was the result of government influence on the Attorney-General.
This issue was questioned by the media from Min.Anura Priyadarshana Yapa at the discussions discussion held yesterday.
This is how he responded:
"No, not from the side of the government making any influence. We know very well that when Court proceedings commence, the Attorney-General can question the police about evidence received by them. Sometimes the Attorney-General files the suggestions. In this instance, he makes decisions on conclusions he had arrived at, based on the evidence. There is no political influence.
In the Kotakethana Case, some suspects have been released on bail. We don't want to make any influence to discharge any suspect without reasons. These are the decisions taken by thr Attorney-General's Department in respect of judicial procedures. We don't know about that".
