MORATUWA UNIVERSITY CLASH LAST NIGHT
The assault by a gang of NDT students on the hostel of the Engineering students
An organised gang of NDT students comprising of well over one hundred had clashed with the students of the engineering faculty. One group had bulldozed their way into the campus premises by overpowering the security personnel at the main gate while another group of about 100 persons had entered through the premises of a nearby preschool Montessori school in the vicinity. The incident had occurred around 10 p.m last night.
The attackers had initially attacked the hostel building causing severe damages to the building and then the rooms of the engineering students. This had caused heavy damages to the furniture and their belongings. The windows and doors of the rooms of the girl’s hostel had been attacked by hurling of stones and other objects causing damages to the windows and doors.
The Police emergency unit was summoned and the situation was brought to an abrupt end and the situation had made to be normal. It is learnt that three students were who were injured had been admitted to the hospital for treatment. One other student it is learnt that had been very seriously injured and is been treated in the ICU of the Colombo National hospital. Owing to this clash the authorities of the Moratuwa engineering faculty had decided to close the Engineering and the NDT faculties of the University until the matter is totally resolved.
