A major conflict has arisen between the popular cricketer T.M Dilshan and his neighbouring lady living at the Raja Maha Vihara Kotte Road in Pita Kotte where Dilshan is residing. After a complaint was made at the Mirihana Police station, the investigators had revealed that the CCTV cameras fixed at Dilshan’s residence had been focussed in such a way as to view the activities that was happening in the neighbour’s swimming pool.
The name of the lady in the neighbouring lady is Renuka de Costa had complained owing to this their privacy has been exposed .She lives with her two school going daughters who very often used to swim in the pool. The Police had visited the house of Dilshan subsequent to newspaper article published in the Sunday Leader newspaper. It was learnt that they had very shrewdly changed the direction of the
Dilshan had made a proposal to Renuka’s husband when he was on vacation. It had been making an offer to sell his house & property to him for a sum of Rs 400 lahks. This proposal was rejected as they had no idea of selling their house and other reason was that why they should sell it and suffer a huge loss as they had purchased it for Rs 505 lakhs. Because of this matter their friendship had been broken as the proposal was automatically rejected. Initially Renuka’s husband had made slight indications in favour of this proposal. However Renuka and the Daughters had been against it..Subsequently there had arisen conflicts within the Costa family. It is learnt that Costa had even assaulted his wife and children over this matter. A police complaint also had been made in this regard.
Because of this Renuka’s husband had been late to proceed to take over his work in Iraq which had resulted in losing his job in Iraq. It is learnt that Dilshan and his wife had come to the balcony and scolded the Costa family. As a solution to this problem Renuka had decided to rent out their house for one year to a foreigner and moved to a rented out residence in Nugegoda area to reside. After the period of lease was over they had returned back to their house. In the meantime Renuka’s husband had found a job in Dubai and gone overseas again. During this period the Renuka’s family had lived peacefully devoid of conflicts.
Once they returned once more conflicts and arguments had begun. Dilshan had been told that there enough properties scattered around, why not you purchase one of them instead of requesting for their house. She had told that it was a matter that concerned her very much. Renuka had complained to the police that Dilshan had scolded her while in his vehicle and at another occasion from his balcony and also with regard to the cameras that were focussed at their swimming pool. For that complaint the police had not taken much of an interest and conducted any investigations is the version of Renuka.
Ultimately when police investigations were held Dilshan it is learnt that had directed the cameras to another direction to escape from the offence. When a reporter of the Sunday leader paper had called Manjula, she had told that she never knew a person by the name Renuka as her neighbour. She had told “Dilshan is a very popular cricketer, by surfacing fake minor offences like this some make efforts to tarnish his reputation”. She had told that they usually stay only about two months in Sri Lanka. The reason they have fixed the CCTV cameras focussed on to their walls for security reasons. She had further added that they have absolutely no necessity to focus their CCTV cameras into the neighbour’s compounds.” I do not know to whom I was speaking to. But to those who make accusations I speak in a different way”. For the police complaints they did come to investigate. They had showed that the cameras were only focussed only on to walls and not directing at another house.
Dilshan is presently on a tour to Australia with the Sri Lanka cricket team. The authorities of the Sunday Leader paper had sent an SMS message questioning about this matter. He had replied saying that he is not aware of such neighbours. But once he returns to Sri Lanka, he would take steps to institute legal action against them.
