After the fall her she had sustained injuries to her hand between her wrist and the elbow. Her father and those at home had admitted her to the closest hospital at Thihagoda for treatment.
After treating her she had been transferred to the Matara hospital for further treatment. According to her father she had been given prompt treatment. After keeping her for hours they had only taken a X-ray report. The doctors and hospital staff had bandaged her hand only on the 18th instant. When her hand was bandaged she had screamed and told it is paining as the bandage is very tight. They had given her a pain killing injection.
“The authorities of the Matara hospital had told that an operation is not needed. The bandage is sufficient to cure her hand. She had told that the bandage was too tight. For that an injection was given for her to sleep. By the 20th her whole hand had become blue in colour. At that time they knew that the treatment was incorrect. They told us to take her to the Colombo National hospital. At that time it was too late. The doctor told that all nerves in her had died .What was told that there is no other alternative but to amputate he hand. On the 23rd evening her left hand was amputated.”
