The security lady at the bags counter caught for robbing foreign currency from a Chinese national via evidence from videos of CCTV cameras:
What is the magnitude of the confidence those who patronise supermarkets and reputed shopping have when they keep their bags and other belongings at the security point at the entrance? How could this security be trusted? What could you do if your belongings are lost at this counter?
This incident had occurred the day before yesterday at the ‘Odel’ shop at the Town hall. This is the place where the Tele-drama actress Udari was caught for shop lifting. However this time the robbery is reported from a person inside, the security lady at the counter where customer’s bags and belongings are kept and a token is given for safety keepimg.
A Chinese National had kept his travelling bag which had contained amongst other belongings a sum equivalent to Rs 10 lacks in sterling pounds foreign currency. The Chinese National had kept his bag and obtained a token and had gone in for his shopping. When he returned he had collected his bag after tendering his token. To verify whether his sterling pounds currency notes were still in tack while leaving he had just checked his bag. He had found some notes to the value equivalent of around Sri Lanka Rupees two hundred and seventy five thousand approximately missing from his bag.
He had promptly reported it to the Security officer in charge who had come to the counter and had made inquiries. The security lady had denied that she never robbed anything from the travelling bag. The security officer also had told that nothing of that sort would have happened.
The Chinese National had gone to the nearby Cinnamon gardens Police Station and had lodged a complaint. The Police had had arrived at the Odel with the Chinese National and had met the Security Officer. After seeking permission from the related authorities of the Odel had wanted to view the video of the CCTV cameras connected close to that security bag counter. It had clearly seen the security lady after the Chinese National went in had robbed some foreign currency from his travelling bag after she had watched if anybody was watching.
She had been taken to the Police station and when questioned had told “ I do not know anything, I have not robbed any money”. The Police women had been ordered to search her body of the security lady who was 40 years old. .She had hidden the Sterling pounds notes inside her clothes. They were able to recover the robbed foreign currency notes equivalent to around Sri Lanka Rupees two hundred and seventy five thousand rupees.
She had been remanded and is to be produced before courts shortly:
