The manner President conveyed this at the Budget speech (Video)
Although many were anticipating a larger salary increase from this budget for the government servants the increase that was made by the President was only a relatively a meagre sum of Rs 1500/-.
The reasons the President explained was that during the recent past the government servants had been granted many other facilities and benefits .At present there are 13 lakhs of people who are employed in the government sector. Those employed in the government sector has been doubled since the year 2005.At present a sum of Rs 366 billion has to be allocated for their salaries. In this context increasing salaries would not be an easy task at all.
However the salary structure would be further scrutinized by a committee to be appointed soon. Until then this amount of Rs 1500/- is the maximum increase that could be given. There is a cost of living allowance of Rs 750/-. From each employees basic salary would get an increase of 5% and with it the real increase would be between Rs 750/- and Rs 2500/.-Those are for the non executive grade employees. A part of 5 % would be paid by the month of May next year and the balance to be paid in September next year.
For the executive staff officers such as Judges, Doctors, Lecturers and those in similar grades and positions, the special allowances would be revised and they would be paid accordingly in the months of January and June in the coming year.
