UDESHI ACHIEVED HER TARGET IN GRADE 5 EXAMINATION

The father of daughter, who promised to buy her a laptop when she passes the Grade 5 scholarship examination over the phone, collapsed and died of a heart attack:
Daughter has passed the examination with high marks:

Last August exactly a month ago after arriving at home after sitting for the Grade 5 scholarship examination, the father who works in Colombo had called the daughter to find out how she fared in the examination. She had told that she had fared well and is expected good results. These words had brought an unbearable happiness to her father who had dropped his phone and collapsed with a fatal heart attack. The father a native of Pitigala was 39 years old. The second part of the story was heard yesterday after the results were released.
The victim was Chaminda Sri Lal de Silva a native of Heenketiyawatta in Pitigala. The daughter Udeshi Nethmini had obtained 173 marks at the Grade 5 scholarship examination was made known when the results were released yesterday. She was a student of Divepalagoda Maha Vidyalaya in Pitigala. According to her results she is eligible to enter a popular national school to pursue her higher education. Her ambition is to become a doctor. The manner she described her thoughts to
 the media are as follows:
“My father passed away on the 26th of last month. His biggest ambition was that I passed the Grade 5 scholarship examination. After I came home after the examnation he called me to ask how I fared at the Grade 5 scholarship. I conveyed to her that I fared well and expect to get good results. He perhaps may have been too happy and unable to suppress his feelings and suffered the heart attack. I have obtained 173 marks according to the results released. I feel very sorry and sad that I lost my father the very day I sat for the Grade 5 scholarship examination.”

The mother of Udeshi B.G.Sriyawathie had this to say:
“Since I lost my husband we are not in a position to celebrate the daughter success on a high note. He passed away only a month ago. I have a younger son. He is Udesh Saranga, a student in the year four class. My ambition is to educate my daughter by sacrificing everything to her and give her the fullest encouragement. When my husband told my daughter that he will buy her a laptop when she passes her grade 5 scholarship examination, the phone call got cut as he had collapsed and died of a heart attack.”
