            The request for asking for light to smoke a cigarette was the cause for MALAKA-MAJOR clash says Minister Mervin:

The son of Minister Mervin Silva’s Malaka who has had a clash with an army Major,an intelligence officer, the facts of which are floating in the air. As this incident is between a powerful Minister’s son and intelligence Army officer it is not given any room to go underground. This incident had taken place at the JAIC Hilton hotel car park, when light was requested by the army Major. The army intelligence officer had come disguised with a corporal to apprehend a drug dealer.
In the meantime Malaka Silva who had been with eight others had asked for cigarettes and light from the army major who had told that he will bring and give them from his car. Within this time the Major had been attacked defying his promise. In the meantime the Corporal had quipped that he is a Major in the army.” We are not worried about his position. There is nothing that we cannot do. We are not scared of any person who is at any esteem.” After saying that, they had fled away.
During the attack Malaka’s gang had grabbed the major’s official pistol and his cell phone worth over Rs 40,000/-, a gold necklace. After two days Malaka’s driver had handed them over to a police station his pistol and the cell phone.
With regard to this grave incident Malaka Siva is yet to be arrested by the Police. However subsequently the waned malaka had gone with his father Minister Mervin Silva to the kelaniya temple to view the Buddha relics.
The answer given by the minister was as it was sacred place it was not a place to make an arrest. When questions were asked from Minister Mervin Silva he had spoken in favour of his son saying that as a youngster he may have had done it. For the questions asked and the answers given as published in Sunday’s Lankadeepa newspaper are as follows:
Q. Your son has once again been involved in some incident. Is it true?
A. “My son had behaved in a manner just like any other young boy.”
Q. Is it true that he is wanted by the Police?
A.” If there is any suspicion the Police will act accordingly. To face it, it will be our concern”
Q. What had happened was attacking and capturing a weapon?
A. “He had not robbed, raped a girl, he had not taken bribes.”
Q. As a prominent politician isn’t your son’s behaviour a question?
A. “After a few years the media is again speaking about my son. The media is exposing this widely as I am a Minister. So what could I do about it?”
Q. Your son always gets entangled in some story?
A .”He does not get entangled. He is forced to get entangled.”
Q. It was mentioned in the papers that you had taken him along with you to view the Buddha relics at kelaniya temple?
A.” It had been said nicely. The newspapers are very prompt in such matters very briskly.”
Q. Your son is a person wh gets very annoyed/
A. “That is because of his age. They are young ,hence they have sting in them.”
Q. he had attacked an army officer?
A. “This is not a question whether he is an army officer. It is because he is Mervin’s son.”
Q. Are you going to produce him to the Police?
A.” For what. For the incident of attacking the army officer, if there is an allegation the Police will see to it. In such an event we will face it.   If has not done anything wrong why we should fear.”
