A case where a thief had stolen 17 lacks by disguising herself as a bride in a matrimonial column is reported from Chilaw.  Sujith Samantha, a resident of Marawala who had failed in his first marriage with two kids had published an advertisement in a matrimonial column. He had published that his two daughters are boarded in a convent and that they are studying. Further he had mentioned that he is looking for a person who will pardon all the faults.

After it had been published, he had received a call saying: “We have a daughter, she was married but now separated. We too have been looking for someone like that. I think you (son) would be an ideal and good match.”

Then the girl has spoken several times saying:
“I too was once married and I had a baby. My husband left me when I lost the baby. I too was looking for a good person. My uncle too said about you.” Along with time, Sujith fell in love and liked for the proposal.

Before long, the girl visited his home with a man who is said to be her uncle. On their first meeting itself, the uncle has gone leaving girl at Sujith’s house.
Since Sujith wasn’t legally divorced, he could not bring the bride following the existing traditions. He was happy with what had happened and it became his second honeymoon. The girl who came searching for him became his wife and the first wife who got to know that tried to arrange for their divorce soon. The new wife who said: “Let’s take a wedding photograph till we get legally married” took a wedding photograph as well.

Sujith told his new wife: “Lets sell this house and go to your village”. So far she had told only a little about her village. She had told that she is from Agrapathana but said again nothing beyond that. Sujith sold his land for Rs 25 lacks  in between the day for him to go for courts too arrived.

Sujith had gone to the courts saying: “We can’t take money inside, so I will take 8 lacks and keep Rs 17 lacks with you.”

Sujith had to pay Rs 8 lacks as compensation to his first wife and the two children. He was very relaxed after the case and when he came out she was not outside. He tried searching her and then realized that she had disappeared. Her phone too was switched off. He went home quickly in order to see what had happened and then got to know that his hopes are all vanished.
Sujith’s new bride had run away with all what he owned the wedding photograph and the money. He had made a complaint in the Police station about his bride who had run away with Rs 17 lacks and the Chillaw Police station is carrying out investigations about the case.
