SUMINDA’S UNEXPECTED TRAGIC DEATH

The Chief cameraman Suminda Weerasinghe who went to shoot “Daladagamanaya” meets with tragic death:

Yesterday morning the renowned cameramen had walked into his room without knowing it as closed, had broken the glass injuring him by falling close to his bed and succumbed to his injuries while he was admitted to hospital.
The renowned Director Cameramen winner of so many awards, a veteran in his profession had accompanied a number of actors and actresses to Anuradhapura for the shooting of the film ’Daladagamanya’.
At dawn yesterday, the 19th his cup of tea had been kept in his hotel room and the door had been closed. When he needed to enter the room he never knew the door was closed. He had walked through the glass injuring himself had fallen near his bed with cut injuries. He had been taken to hospital for treatment. He had succumbed to his injuries within a short time. This was revealed by a Police spokesman.
He had commenced his film career in the year 1984 as junior cameramen from the film ‘Arunata Pera’. After maturing as a renowned cameraman he had been the Chief cameraman for 11 films thereafter.
Thereafter he had contributed to 39 other films as the chief cameraman and had won 23 awards for his cinematic photography. He had been chosen as the best cameramen and had been awarded  Presidential Awards for four films. The films were ‘Arunata Pera’, ’Sihina Deshayen’,’Dehethe’ and, ‘Para Valalu’ .
In addition he had been the chief cameraman for many films including ‘Gini Avi’, ‘Gini Keli’,’ Kinihimya Mal’ and ‘Alokamanda’.
