A boat with Sri Lankan immigrants had capsized near ‘Christmas’ Islands where 75 had died.
A boat with about 200 immigrants who had tried to enter Australia illegally had faced with an accident by overturning near ‘Christmas’ Islands yesterday the 21st.
It is inferred that about 75 would have died. It reported that lives of 110 have been saved. Even though they have not first known from which country the boat had otiginated and had been travelling from, it had been confirmed today the 22nd that there had been some Sri Lankans in the boat.
The boat had been in the Indian Ocean 1200 miles away from Indonesia and 2600 miles away from Australia. The Australian Navy had rescued the people from a signal they have received via radio messages. Indonesian Rescue Agency had mentioned that even though they have got the message officially they have been told that 110 have been rescued.
In the Indonesian Rescue Agency Statement, it is said 110 have been rescued from the mission and they have been taken to ‘Christmas’ Islands.
An announcement about the people and identity of those who had died had not been made yet.
