KAHAWATTA DUAL MURDER NO: 2
Due the abnormal behaviour of the murderer caught by Siba, the further investigations on the murder have been deranged:
With the help of the police sniffer dog Siba, the dual murder at Kahawatta was revealed. It was revealed that Nanda who had been a nephew of the dead women had done the murders expecting to own the house and the land which had belonged to them.
Even though Nanda has confessed that he did the murders, the police have started to suspect his words due some of the contradictory things he had confessed.
The police dog, Siba had sniffed the grill at the window and had stopped near a water tap. There was a house close by and the police was able to catch K. Nanda Kumara. The police stated that the police dog would have been able to catch the man who had washed his hands in the tap since his hand had been burnt by the fire. Nanda had killed two of his own aunts.
However the police have not been able to resolve the issue as the suspect have been giving different information at different times. The statements he had made have been contradictory. Even though it is clear that he has committed the murders, what is not clear is the fact whether anyone had been behind it.
At the same time, the true reason for the murders has not yet been found out yet. It was reported from the village that Nanda had been angry with the aunts as they have been against one of his love affairs.
Allamulla land which is said to be a gem mine owned by one of his aunts is about half an acre in extent. There had been a rumour that their land has a gem mine. The villagers have also suspected that they have got rich because of the gems. Before Nanda became angry with his aunts, he had helped them to build their house as well. Nanda is said to have grown up alone and he had studied up to his A/L’s. It is also said that he had been cornered from the society as he had showed some abnormal qualities.
Nanda’s sister is married and she is living in the next house of the aunts who have been killed. Police have got a tip that Nanda who had visited his sister in the evening of the murder had kept an eye on his aunt’s house.
The statement made by him as to how he went to their house is not clear. His first confession has been as follow:
The police have been able to find the knife and the bar thrown away by him and a letter written by him threatening his aunts.
However the unusual way in which he had confessed to the police is questionable. It is not clear whether he is behaving normally or whether he is trying to fool the police by misleading the police.
It had been reported that when the villagers have gathered around to call off the fire, Nanda had been walking around while shouting without offering any support. On the next day, he had spent the day at home as if nothing had happened.
In further investigations it was found out that he had been eying on the Ellamulla land over a long period of time. He had not been happy to see his aunts taking another person to look after a part of the land where tea had been grown. It had been revealed that the separation of his aunts had been troubling him a lot.
He had also being suspecting that his aunts will write the land to one of his uncles who had been close to the dead aunts. But some of the facts revealed by him during his confession had misled the police.
After the case was filed, the Judge had made an order to test his mental status and it had been difficult to come to a conclusion as his statements were all contradictory.

Both of them died… I wrapped them in the mattress and took them to their room. Then I burnt them and later on I threw the knife into the river.”
But it was reported that when he had been questioned again, he had come up with contradictory statements to those which were spoken by him before. Thus it is not yet revealed as to whether the murders were done by him alone or whether another person has been involved along with him. The police have been able to find the knife and the bar thrown away by him and a letter written by him threatening his aunts.
