The story of the dog who sacrificed itself to save its Master
Businessman Kodisinghe’s house was robbed the other day and when he and his spouse were fighting for life under the threats of the robbers, their dog ‘Lucky’ had sacrificed its life to save its Master. There had been two cats and two dogs at his house and ‘Lucky’ had been shot by one of the robbers and the suspects had escaped.
Even though ‘Lucky’ had been taken to the Veterinary surgeon for treatment, they haven’t been able to save ‘Lucky’s’ life. Kodisinghe family was very worried as their attempt to save their dog’s life had proved futile.
M/s. Kodisinghe was in tears when she said that ‘Lucky’ was not merely a dog but like a human being who tried to save our lives.
“We buried Lucky wrapped in a white clothe and we did religious rituals on behalf of him. Lucky had very strange good qualities. He used to wait outside till we return when we go out. The cat (Titee) too was very close to him. ‘ Lucky’ didn’t eat meat at all” quipped the Kodisinghe family.
On last 24th the robbers have been hiding in the garden. At that time the dogs were in the kennel.
“When the two of us came home, we parked the vehicle and I went straight to the house and my wife went to free the dogs. At that time our old mother was watching TV.
The robber caught me and kept the gun near my throat and asked for gold and money. I said that we don’t have gold but the he didn’t believe me.
I heard that the other robber was threatening my wife,” quipped Mr Kodisinghe.
“Then the dogs were barking at the robber who was next to my wife and the cat too started to rub itself against the robber.”
‘Lucky’ had started to bite the robber while barking and in between my wife shouted saying that the robbers have come. All of a sudden I heard gunfire and I thought that they have shot my wife.
I just pushed the robber who was next to me and ran towards the place where the sound came from. The two robbers escaped and ‘Lucky’ was fallen on the ground. I think that ‘Lucky’ would have bitten them.
He showed us Dicky (the other dog) who was in the kennel saying that he seems to be so sad about its lost colleague.
Mr. Kodisinghe said that he is planning to give the seventh day alms to ‘Lucky.”
