The assassination that clamoured Chilaw


Yesterday’s protest against the fuel hike organized by the fishermen at Chilaw ended in a tragic note following a death of one of the fisherman under tragic circumstances The victim was one Anthony Fernando, a 27 year old father of three children who has died from this incident of shooting. His wife is employed abroad. His mother who is looking after his children was in unbearable shock and tears after his death.
Numerous stories were been reported about this unfortunate incident. The fishermen who started the protest peacefully have tried to enter the city fully armed with sharp weapons like knives and clubs. Then they have got into a conflict with the Police. It is learnt that during this fight one of the fishermen had been shot and pronounced dead.
At the same time another story about the same incident is that the fishermen were not armed. It is said that this death had taken place when the Police had used gunfire to dispel the crowds.
However, Anthony had died on the spot as he had been shot on his head which had been a ghastly scene. 
Even after this case was reported, the Police media spokesperson stated that such a shooting had not been reported to him. Later on in the evening, it was reported that the CID is carrying on investigations about the incident in connection with the shooting.
However, evidence was found lately that this fisherman was shot by the Special Forces and that the CID had taken 3 guns to the custody of the Police.
Police took steps to donate 5 lacks to the mother of the dead person and the police have declared curfew in the evening suspecting that there will be troubles in the night.
Four UPFA members in Chilaw have resigned from their posts showing their dislike regarding this incident.
