MAN DROWNED IN UNPROTECTED AGRICULTURAL WELL

Man drowned in unprotected well

The Police had arrived to intervene and resolve a dispute involving two parties consisting mainly of youths at a Musical show at Makulugaswewa area in Galewela during the night, over a dispute of a ‘helmet’. The Police from the Galewela Police station had arrived to resolve the conflict. The Police had instructed the parties involved  to disperse in order to terminate the conflict. One party had bolted away after abusing and hooting at the Police personnel.
Unfortunately one of them in one party who had fled while running away had fallen into an unprotected agricultural well and had been drowned. Although efforts were made to recover the man before been drowned proved to be futile. Only the dead body was recovered from the unprotected well.
The drowned person by name is H.D.Gunawardena,  a married person having two children. The post mortem had confirmed that the death was owing to drowning. The facts of the incident is been further investigated under the instructions by the OIC Galewela Police Station ,  Prageeth Suranga.
