IGP SUBMITS HIS RETIREMENT LETTER TO PRESIDENT

 
SENIOR DEPUTY INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE, N.K.ILLANGAKOON HAS BEEN APPOINTED TEMPORARILY

After accepting the letter of resignation submitted by the present IGP Mahinda Balasuriya, the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr N.K.Illangakoon has been appointed to replace him as the new Inspector General of Police. But his appointment has been made valid only up to the 17th June at which point the permanent IGP is to be appointed.

It is reliably reported that just a couple of moments ago that The Inspector General of Police Mr. Mahinda Balasuriya had submitted his retirement papers to the President with immediate effect. The reason is because the action of the police personnel at the Katunayake FTZ demonstrations.
The rear guard action to combat the demonstrators had caused the Police Authorities immense disgrace, the manner it was handled .The unusual action has been subjected to enormous criticism.
