"I have no idea of coming into politics ... mother in law is very fond of me" -- Jalani Premadasa

Numerous sensational stories circulated within social media recently round Jalani Premadasa married to presidential candidate minister Sajith Premadasa. What is published herewith is an interview she had after coming to TV One channel sometime ago.

* What are your personal details?
  My mother is Hemali Kehelpannala and she is from Kandy. She had her schooling at Girls' High School. Father is Nimal Jayawardena. Both my mother and father are connected to business activities.
Mother has an interior decor company. I have a younger sister and is 6 years younger to me. She is now married. I had my primary education in England. After studying overseas and returned to Sri Lanka and completed rest of the studies at Colombo Bishop's College. For higher studies I left to Australia. I studied to be an accountant. It was when I had finished all that I met Sajith.

* How did Sajith and you meet each other?
  It happened like this ... My mother was someone who worked a lot for the UNP. It was with her at the apex that the professional group of the party was formed. Because of that, my mother is invited for the pinkama of Sajith's deceased father. I went there casually as such. It was there that I came to know Sajith. The next day itself Sajith called me. It was the conversation that was started on that day which flowered into marriage.

* Who was it that brought the wedding proposal ... you or he?
  He likes very much to give surprises. The wedding proposal too was brought that way. Till we got married we associated each other privately. Till we married I didn't like going before the public in his company. It was after the marriage that I went with Sajith to meet people in Hambanthota.

* Did you co-operate in Sajith's work?
  Yes ... on the very first day I went to Hambanthota I decided that I ought support Sajith's welfare activities. That work became a reason for my satisfaction. Sajith's joy actually is to do some help to the people. We both engage in that with a desire of our own. Not politics alone ... satisfaction at heart.

* What sort of affinity did you have with mother in law Hema Premadasa?
  Sajith's mother was affectionate to me right from the start. She treats me well. There is a good rapport between us.

* How is Sajith's form of entertainment ... his free time ... the songs he listen's to?
  He likes Clarence Wijeywardena's songs a lot. He is good at singing songs also. Sajith makes a trip to Yala park often ... loves animals. I also like going to Yala.

* Because of politics ... not with the family ... Sajith is mostly in the company of the society. Do you dislike that?
  Sajith serves people from the bottom of his heart. I have understood that. There's no night-time or daytime for him. I think that is an inborn trait of his father. He also has a habit of finishing off whatever he says. I like those characteristics of his.

* Do you have any hope in coming into politics?
  Not at all. I have no thoughts about engaging in politics. I helped Sajith in all obstacles and challenges that came his way. I'll give encouragement to lift Sajith to the highest seat some day. That's all.
