Welikada hangmen recruited missing:
Had left behind their hair wigs hung in the barber salon:
The two hangmen who were very recently recruited to the Welikada prison had been suddenly found missing. The two hangmen recruited as the Chief hangman and the assistant hangman. They were to undergo training for a period of three months after they were recruited.
These two last week had gone on leave, but had not returned back for work. They have not been able to be communicated by many ways attempted. Since leaving after leave nothing had been heard of them since.
The posts of hangmen are permanent they are paid a salary during the training period also. After having been trained for 1 ½ months they had taken leave on the last poya day on the 25th and had gone home. It is reported that to date they have no returned.
The two hangmen who were recruited are reported to be two persons who had deserted from the army, but they had been given a pardon as they had surrendered. It is learnt that they have left the army after they received pardon.
For the post of Hangmen that 400 persons had applied. These two were selected out of the applicants. They had come for the training with long hair which was bundled into a hair ball, tied and placed on top of their heads. There is barber salon inside the Welikada prison premises for the convenience of the prisoners. It is learnt that these two hangmen had left their hair balls kept hanging inside the barber salon in the prison.
It is not known why these two who joined with enthusiasm had gone missing. It is suspected whether they have received any threats or for some other reason.
