ANGULANA DOUBLE MURDER CASE: OIC & THREE OTHERS SENTENCED TO DEATH

OIC Angulana & three others sentenced to death

Everyone remembers very well how the whole nation was shaken up hearing the killing of two youths, residents of Angulana in August 2009.It all had happened when it was alleged that the two youths had cast certain remarks to the informal wife of the OIC of the Angulana Police station. The two youths in question had been taken in for questioning by the Angulana Police.
Subsequently it was known that two youths had been shot dead and the bodies were found in the vicinity by the fishing folk of Angulana, which is predominantly an area where fishermen did fishing to earn a living. This arose a tremendous anger amongst the fishing community and it developed to a major ‘uproar’ by them accusing the Police having utilized their powers to kill the youths in order to take revenge for a minor private incident.
After the killings amidst strong protests by the fishing community in particular the OIC and 3 others were remanded on suspicion. After two years the final verdict was to be delivered today. A large contingent of persons from the Angulana area had come to see the proceedings of the case that had flocked the area surrounding the High Courts. To control this crowd a number of security personnel had to be deployed in and around the courts complex.
The verdict given was to sentence to death the OIC Newton and three others. According to the critics this verdict will go down in the history of the Police as a clear ’Black Mark’.
