Buddhism is a noble philosophy that spreads loving-kindness, compassion, and non-violence towards all beings. However, dancing 'thovil' (exorcism rituals) in front of Buddha statues, cursing, and acting with hateful intentions are actions completely contrary to those noble principles, states Mr. Chamira Perera, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Labour People's Front.

Joining a special press conference held in Hatton, he emphasized this point, severely criticizing the program being implemented at the Viharamahadevi Park premises in Colombo. Mr. Chamira Perera alleges that this spectacle, operating under a religious guise, is merely a political project of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the Rajapaksa faction. He further stated that it has no Buddhist ecclesiastical or doctrinal basis whatsoever.

The Chairman pointed out that such activities carried out by those responsible for bankrupting the country have already been rejected by the public, and stated that narrow objectives of defeated political forces lie behind this spectacle. The Sri Lanka Labour People's Front further emphasizes that the government should immediately focus its political attention and take necessary steps to prevent the misuse of religious symbols for political purposes in this manner.

Meanwhile, political analysts point out that ideological conflicts arising in society due to this trend of using religious heritage and symbols for political projects could further intensify. However, they also express confidence that the public will recognize such political tactics well in the future and act accordingly.

In light of this discussion, which has taken on both religious and political dimensions, the entire country's attention is currently focused on what the government and responsible institutions will respond next.
