The Court of Appeal decided to dismiss a writ petition filed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, seeking to prevent his arrest, without hearing it. The former President had filed the petition based on investigations being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the series of terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday.

Through that writ petition, he requested the court to issue an appropriate order to the Criminal Investigation Department, preventing his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with the investigations into the said terrorist attack.

The petition was called before a two-judge bench of the Court of Appeal, comprising President of the Court of Appeal Justice Rohantha Abeysooriya and Justice Sarath Dissanayake, for consideration. After considering the preliminary facts and legal background presented, the bench concluded that there was no basis for further hearing the petition. Accordingly, the Court of Appeal issued the relevant order, dismissing the writ petition.
