Three individuals, including a husband and wife, who were involved in a large-scale drug trafficking operation, have been arrested by officers of the Western Province North Crimes Division along with a stock of heroin and ice drugs worth approximately thirty crore rupees.
During a recent raid in the Kadawatha area, a suspect was arrested with eight locally manufactured firearms, 534 rounds of various types of ammunition, and over two kilograms of heroin. This new raid was carried out based on information revealed during extensive questioning of that suspect.
According to information provided by the suspect arrested in Kadawatha, the police confirmed that a stock of drugs exchanged in Maharagama was hidden in a house in the Thumbolila area of Piliyandala. Accordingly, during a raid and search of the said house, investigating officers were able to find 11 kilograms and 69 grams of heroin and 6 kilograms and 90 grams of ice drugs secretly stored there.
During questioning of the arrested husband and wife who were staying at the house, it was revealed that the house was rented for fifty thousand rupees monthly with the sole purpose of using it as a safe house to store this stock of drugs. Under the direct guidance and instructions of a prominent drug trafficker residing abroad, they have been distributing these drugs to various areas in the Western Province for some time.
In addition, a motor vehicle with fake number plates used for transporting drugs has also been taken into police custody, and based on further information provided by the arrested couple, the police were able to apprehend another suspect connected to this racket in the Bokundara area.
Those arrested are individuals aged 24, 27, and 31, residing in the Dehiwala, Embilipitiya, and Wagoda areas. Further investigations regarding these suspects are being conducted by a police team including Sub-Inspector Ishara Madusanka, under the direction of Mr. C. Dharmaratne, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Director of the Western North Crimes Division.
