MP Chaminda Wijesiri, who has been released on bail, stated in Parliament that a group of senior prison inmates over 70 years old, who are unable to even fulfill their basic personal needs independently, are still incarcerated. He pointed out that despite being eligible for release due to good conduct, many inmates have been serving sentences for decades and are still in prison.

Addressing Parliament for the first time after being released on bail, the MP presented to the House the story of a person who was imprisoned at the age of 18 and died after being incarcerated for over 30 years. He further stated that many people are still imprisoned there for years without obtaining freedom, despite meeting the qualifications.

Mr. Chaminda Wijesiri, who was convicted of obstructing and assaulting two police officers and sentenced to 18 months in prison on July 28, was later released on bail. Reflecting on his experience in prison, he severely criticized both the government and the opposition regarding the actions that led to the damages he incurred during the past period.
