Two individuals have died and another woman has been seriously injured in a T-56 firearm attack carried out by an unknown group who arrived in a motor car, targeting a three-wheeler traveling on the Baddegama - Hikkaduwa road in the Halpatota, Waulagala area within the Baddegama Police Division. In this shooting incident, which occurred this morning (27), the driver of the three-wheeler died on the spot, and one of the two women traveling in it passed away after being admitted to Baddegama Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Lalith Susantha de Silva, a 46-year-old father of three and the three-wheeler driver, residing in the Kuligoda / Meetiyagoda area of Ambalangoda, and Susitha Iroshani, a 47-year-old woman known by the alias 'Kalu Noni', residing in the Godahena, Red Cross housing scheme in Ambalangoda. The other woman, D.N.G. Mallika, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, is the mother of the deceased Susitha Iroshani, and she is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Karapitiya Galle National Hospital.
The deceased woman was subjected to this attack while she was returning towards Ambalangoda after attending a Sunday signing related to a court case at the Galle District Crime Division located in Baddegama. CCTV cameras nearby have recorded the gunman, who arrived in a motor car, getting out of the vehicle, blocking the three-wheeler's path, and firing shots. After the attack, the suspects have fled towards Hikkaduwa.
Information has revealed that the deceased woman was involved in the drug trafficking activities of Ladduwa Handi Sujeewa Ruwan Kumara alias 'Loku Pati', and the police suspect that this murder was orchestrated by Sobanahandi Jayalath de Silva alias 'Karandeniya Sudda', an organized crime and drug trafficker. Baddegama Police are conducting further investigations to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the attack.
