Young woman who impersonated a female police officer to watch the Kandy Esala Perahera

A 25-year-old woman, who watched the Dalada Perahera impersonating a female police officer by wearing a blue t-shirt with 'Sri Lanka Police' written on it, has been arrested on suspicion by the Kandy Headquarters Police. This woman, a resident of the Peradeniya area, was arrested on the night of the 26th.

Upon inspecting the bag of the arrested suspect, officers of the Kandy Headquarters Police found a blue jacket with 'Sri Lanka Police' written on it and several police official badges. Furthermore, upon inspecting her mobile phone, numerous photographs of her dressed in attire similar to a police uniform were found.

As revealed during investigations, this woman had been in a romantic relationship with a young man and had deceived him by claiming to be working for the police. It is said that to confirm this deception, she took photographs dressed in attire similar to a police uniform using her mobile phone and showed them to her boyfriend.

Officers of the Kandy unit of the Police Special Bureau became suspicious of this woman, who was in the Raja Veediya area to watch the Perahera, and informed the police officers present for special duties. Later, when female police officers questioned this woman, although she claimed to be a police officer, subsequent verifications revealed that she does not work for the police, leading to her arrest on charges of impersonation.

This woman works as an employee in a private cleaning service company, and information has also been revealed that she was involved in cleaning police stations in previous periods.

Under the guidance of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Central Province, Lalith Pathinayake, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Kandy and Matale Districts, Sudath Masinghe, and Senior Superintendent of Police for Kandy Division, Anuruddha Bandara Hakmana, further investigations into this matter are being conducted under the leadership of Chief Inspector Sampath Bandara, OIC of Kandy Headquarters Police Station.
