29 arrested for breaking open a safe that floated in due to Nepal floods and stealing money.

Nepali media reports that 29 individuals have been arrested by the Dhading District Police in connection with an incident where a bank safe, washed away by severe flooding in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers in Nepal's Rasuwa district, was broken into and over 9.2 million Nepali Rupees (20 million Sri Lankan Rupees) were stolen from it. These individuals have been accused of illegally breaking open the safe, which was carried by the flood, and taking the money inside into their possession.

This safe, which had been stranded on the banks of the Trishuli River in the Belkhu Khola area, belonging to the Galchhi Rural Municipality in Dhading District, was found by a group including local residents. Subsequently, the safe was forcibly broken open at the same location, and the money inside was distributed. Acting swiftly on information received, security forces took steps to arrest the suspects. The police managed to recover 9,268,505 Nepali Rupees from the arrested individuals.

Deputy Police Superintendent Prakash Dahal, spokesperson for the Dhading District Police Office, stated that among the arrested suspects are individuals aged between 19 and 49, residing in the areas of Galchhi, Siddhalek, Chitwan, and Parsa. Further investigations are currently underway regarding this group of 29 individuals, including Pawan Paudel, Veer Bahadur Rana, Binod Giri, and Navaraj Bhetuwal.

The total amount of money deposited in the safe has not yet been officially confirmed, and investigations are also being conducted into the legal source of the recovered money. Furthermore, the police are conducting further operations to ascertain if there are other individuals involved in this incident.
