150 million rupees in extortion money taken from 21 businessmen, including 'Bus Lalith'.

The Central Criminal Investigation Bureau has revealed that Lalith Kannangara, also known as 'Bus Lalith', an organized crime and drug trafficker who was arrested in Dubai and brought to Sri Lanka, had extorted nearly 150 million rupees from 21 prominent businessmen in the country. However, it is also reported that none of the affected businessmen have complained to the police about this, due to the intense fear they had of the suspect.

He was brought to Katunayake Airport by a special police team on a SriLankan Airlines flight UL 226, which arrived from Dubai around 5:20 AM on the 25th. This trafficker had collected ransom money by threatening individuals who buy and sell valuable land in Colombo over the phone, and had also used his henchmen to forcibly seize some government lands. Furthermore, information has been revealed about five T-56 firearms used in murders committed by him, and special investigations are underway to locate them.

Bus Lalith has been accused of several serious crimes, including the murder of two businessmen in the Hanwella area and the killing of four individuals, including underworld leader Manju alias Manna Roshan. Additionally, he has been charged with the murders of former Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha members Chinthaka Kudaligama and Shantha Mudunkotuwa alias 'Dhana', as well as the attempted murder of Dematagoda Ruwan and his associate by shooting them at a Colombo nightclub in 2025.

People in several areas, including Hanwella, expressed their joy by lighting firecrackers to show their appreciation for bringing this suspect back to the country. Further investigations regarding him, who is currently being detained and questioned at the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau, are being conducted under the direction of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ranmal Kodithuwakku, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandana Kodithuwakku, and Director Kamal Ariyawansa.
