Meta has taken steps to remove the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature introduced to the Instagram social media platform due to strong user protests and serious privacy concerns. It is noteworthy that the company had to remove this new feature less than a week after its introduction.

This feature was introduced as part of Meta's new 'Muse' image generation model, aiming to create new images using AI based on users' public photos. However, users expressed strong disapproval about their photos being used as sources for someone else's AI creations without their permission or knowledge. Users on social media platforms like Instagram, Threads, and X questioned this and voiced strong criticisms regarding the impact on privacy.

Meta confirmed that the feature was temporarily suspended after listening to user feedback. Meta has not yet made any statement regarding whether or not this feature will be reintroduced in the future, or when it might happen. In an era where companies are competing to rapidly develop and introduce artificial intelligence technology to the market, such actions forcing companies to readjust their strategies have become a common trend.

Other leading tech companies like Google and OpenAI had previously taken steps to remove or modify their AI features due to technical glitches or user protests that arose during trials. It is observed that this method of rapidly releasing AI products to the market and then refining them based on user feedback is prevalent throughout the industry.
