Massive wildfires in France and Spain

Thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes and holiday resorts and flee to emergency shelters due to massive wildfires in France and Spain, it is reported. This disaster has destroyed a large number of homes, making it the largest civilian evacuation operation carried out in France during a peaceful period.

Displaced families can be seen staying on camp beds in temporary shelters set up in exhibition halls and indoor stadiums.

One person has died in eastern Spain due to this disaster, and two firefighters have also died near Bordeaux, France, while attempting to extinguish the fire. A large number of people have been evacuated to safe places from areas around Bordeaux as well as Madrid, the capital of Spain. Authorities have also issued new evacuation orders near Toledo, Spain, and the Spanish Interior Minister has warned that the situation will become even more precarious due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

The wildfire in the Gironde region of France has created a unique type of pyrocumulus cloud, and the winds generated by it have made it extremely difficult to predict and control the fire's behavior. Scientists point out that extreme dry weather conditions and heatwaves like these are constantly occurring across Europe due to global warming and climate change.

France has deployed approximately 1,500 soldiers for wildfire suppression operations, and support, including firefighting aircraft, is being received from other European Union countries. According to official data, nearly 98,000 hectares of land have been burned across France so far, with over 100 buildings destroyed and more than 32,000 hectares turned to ash in southwestern France alone. Authorities in Spain confirm that approximately 25,000 hectares have already burned in areas around Madrid, and there is a risk of two major wildfires merging.
