Forensic doctor who abused a sixteen-year-old student remanded

A Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) serving at the Ragama Teaching Hospital, North Colombo, has been remanded by the Welisara Magistrate's Court until the 26th, on charges of severely sexually abusing a sixteen-year-old minor school student. This doctor, who was arrested on suspicion by Pamunugama Police, was presented before the court on the 22nd, after which this order was issued.




Police investigations have revealed that the suspect Judicial Medical Officer, who is currently remanded, is a resident of Bemmulla area in Meerigama. Police state that he called the school student to his house and committed the sexual abuse. Steps have now been taken to refer the alleged sixteen-year-old victim for a medical examination.

Acting on a complaint received, police officers extensively questioned the victim student and recorded statements, and based on the evidence and facts revealed, this suspect doctor was arrested. Legal action has been taken against him under charges of abduction from lawful guardianship and severe sexual abuse.




These investigations were carried out under the direct supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sajeeva Medawatta, in charge of the Western Province, and according to the instructions of Attorney-at-Law Kalinga Jayasinghe, DIG in charge of the Western North Division. Under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bimal Perera, in charge of the Negombo Division, a team of officers from the Children and Women's Bureau, led by Pamunugama Police Station OIC, Police Inspector Imaka Sanjeewa, arrested the suspect, and Pamunugama Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
