JVP Pradeshiya Sabha Member Assaulted at Musical Event: Nine Arrested

Nine individuals were arrested by the Kuliyapitiya Headquarters Police on the 18th in connection with an incident where a National People's Power (NPP) Pradeshiya Sabha member for Panduwasnuwara was assaulted during a New Year's music concert organized at the Kuliyapitiya Wijaya Uda Gampola playground. Police investigations have confirmed that the assault occurred during this performance, which was held at night on April 17th, coinciding with the Sinhala New Year festival.

The member who faced this attack is 48-year-old R.M.U. Nishantha Ratnayake, a resident of the Anukkana area. He sustained injuries in the attack and is currently admitted to the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving inpatient medical treatment.

All suspects taken into police custody in connection with the incident have been identified as individuals aged between 26 and 59, residents of the same area, and engaged in casual labor. The arrested individuals were scheduled to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate's Court, and the Kuliyapitiya Headquarters Police are continuously conducting further investigations into the incident.
