A German national woman who came to Sri Lanka for a tour has passed away while receiving treatment at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital due to a sudden illness. The foreign woman who unfortunately died in this manner is Andrea Silvia, aged fifty-nine.
She arrived in the country on the 26th with her husband and another group. After touring the Colombo and Habarana areas, they arrived in Kandy on the 28th and stayed at a tourist hotel located on Lady MacCallum Road in Dodamwala. However, on the afternoon of the 29th, the woman experienced a sudden illness and collapsed near a bathroom within the hotel premises.
The hotel staff who witnessed the incident immediately acted and took steps to admit her to Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, but she passed away that same afternoon while receiving treatment. Subsequently, the hotel manager lodged a complaint with the Katugastota Police regarding this matter, and accordingly, the Police's various complaints division has commenced the relevant investigations.
The inquest into the sudden death of the deceased woman was conducted by Udunuwara Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Mr. S.C.K. Weerage, and the post-mortem examination was performed by Dr. Pathali Wedamulla, the Judicial Medical Officer at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, on the 31st. It was revealed that the cause of death was the exacerbation of an intestinal infection that had been present for a long time. Furthermore, it was confirmed during further investigations that she had undergone surgery about a month ago due to this medical condition.
