A brother and sister from the same family tragically lost their lives in a horrific head-on collision between a motorcycle and an oncoming vehicle near the Nedunkulam junction on the Jaffna-Kollupitiya road. The accident occurred on the night of March 16, and the deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Robinson Badly and his 19-year-old sister Robinson Dilakshi, residents of the Maniyanthottam area in Jaffna.

The brother and sister were traveling from Jaffna city towards Kollupitiya on their motorcycle when they met with the accident. Their motorcycle collided at high speed with an oncoming pickup truck. Although both, who sustained serious injuries due to the accident, were immediately admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, hospital sources confirmed that they succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

This tragedy has created a deeply sorrowful atmosphere throughout the area, with the main reason being that the deceased 19-year-old young woman had been married for only a short period of two months. It has become a matter of profound grief for everyone that she had to prematurely bid farewell to life, along with her brother, just as she completed two months of her new life.

The driver of the pickup truck involved in the accident has been arrested by the Jaffna Headquarters Police, and further legal action and investigations into the incident are continuously underway. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Police Department recently emphasized that there has been a significant increase in the number of deaths caused by such road accidents across the entire island in recent times.
