American fighter jets have launched a series of intense attacks on military targets located in the mountains near the Chabahar Free Trade Zone in southeastern Iran. Reports further indicate that massive explosion sounds were heard from behind this zone, which is situated in the Sistan and Baluchestan province, close to the Pakistani border.
However, these attacks have not damaged the main commercial port, having merely targeted military bases adjacent to it.This latest attack is another step in the extensive American-Israeli joint military operation known as 'Operation Epic Fury', launched against Iran since late February and early March 2026. The city of Chabahar, a strategic port city facing the Gulf of Oman, has been subjected to constant attacks due to the presence of numerous Iranian naval assets, missile centers, air defense systems, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) facilities within it. The primary objectives of these attacks have been to counter threats to maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and to neutralize anti-ship missile systems.
Currently, American forces appear to have full air superiority in the region, with American aircraft seen flying at very low altitudes even over populated areas amidst minimal resistance from Iranian air defense systems. Footage was recently released to the media showing F/A-18 Super Hornets from the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier flying low over the port area and attacking with 20mm weapons. Under this extensive operation, over 5,500 targets across Iran have been attacked so far, destroying numerous naval vessels, air defense systems, and missile bases. In the Chabahar area, a large number of Jamaran-class warships and related infrastructure have also reportedly been destroyed.
US President Trump has stated that these operations could continue for several more weeks to completely eliminate threats to regional maritime traffic and allied nations. Although Iran has attempted to retaliate with missiles and drones against American attacks, American and Israeli air superiority continues uninterrupted. According to information reported so far, no attacks targeting civilians in the Chabahar region have been confirmed, and the entire operation has focused solely on destroying Iranian military and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps assets.
