Steps have been taken to suddenly stop the daily printed editions of 'Mawbima' and its English newspaper 'Ceylon Today', published by a prominent media institution owned by former Minister Tiran Alles.
Regarding this decision, the management has stated in an announcement published on the front pages of the relevant newspapers released today (04) that all future news coverage will only be conducted through the digital space. However, internal sources confirm that even though daily newspaper printing has stopped, the weekend editions of 'Mawbima' and 'Ceylon Today' will continue to be released to the market in print.
Due to this sudden decision by the corporate management, its employees are facing severe difficulties. According to reports, the company did not give any prior notice to employees regarding the suspension of daily printing, and the majority of journalists and employees only became aware of it after seeing the announcement published in today's newspaper.
Meanwhile, employees of the institution have also leveled several serious allegations against the management. They point out that outstanding salary arrears due to journalists have not yet been paid, and Employee Provident Fund (EPF) contributions have not been properly accounted for over several years.
