The Colombo Municipal Council has decided to re-implement the process of charging fees for parking vehicles within the Colombo city limits, which was previously suspended, starting tomorrow (23) at 6:00 AM.

This new decision regarding the re-implementation of parking fees was reached during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Finance of the Colombo Municipal Council.

During the recent past, severe vehicle queues had formed around fuel stations, which also heavily impacted parking spaces in the city. As a step to provide some relief to people coming to obtain fuel, the Municipal Council had temporarily suspended the collection of parking fees, effective from March 18th.

However, a systematic program for fuel distribution based on the QR code system and whether the last digit of the vehicle's registration number is odd or even is currently in operation. With the observation that vehicle queues around fuel stations in Colombo have significantly reduced due to these new methods, authorities have decided to re-implement parking fees.
