Apple has commenced a week of unveiling several of their latest products, with the main attraction being the 'MacBook Neo' model, the newest and most affordable laptop added to their MacBook computer series.

This 13-inch laptop, with an aluminum finish, is powered by a modified special edition of the A18 Pro chip, used in last year's iPhone 16 Pro models, featuring a 5-core GPU. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and it includes a 1080p webcam hidden in the top part of the screen without a notch, along with side-firing stereo speakers.

Its screen is a standard one with a 60Hz refresh rate, a resolution slightly higher than 1440p, and a maximum brightness of 500 nits. It will be released in four colors: indigo, blush, citrus, and silver, and comes with a white keyboard that matches the computer's color. On the left side of the computer, there are two non-Thunderbolt USB Type-C ports and a headphone jack.

The MacBook Neo, released at a starting price of US$599, is similar in price to Apple's Mac mini computer and has become the most affordable Apple laptop currently available. The 256GB base model does not include Touch ID, instead using a regular lock button. However, the 512GB model can be purchased with Touch ID for an additional $100. Its trackpad is also designed as an older, physically clickable model, without modern haptic technology.

Despite its 13-inch size, it weighs 2.7 pounds, which is similar to the slightly larger MacBook Air. Since a smartphone chip is combined with a laptop battery, it is expected to have a high battery life of about 16 hours. This computer is well-suited for everyday general tasks such as web browsing, email use, document preparation, and basic photo editing, but it is not sufficient for serious video editing tasks.

It appears that Apple has introduced this specifically targeting the education sector and school students, to compete with the low-cost Chromebooks currently available in the market. Under special student discounts, it can be purchased for $499, which is a much more advantageous choice than buying a basic iPad for $329 and an Apple keyboard for $250 separately.

The MacBook Neo can be described as a successful redesign of the 12-inch MacBook computer that Apple introduced about 10 years ago using Intel processors. Although that computer was not very successful at the time, with the advancement of Apple Silicon technology, they have now succeeded in creating an efficient and practical small computer.

In addition to the MacBook Neo, Apple has announced several other new products this week. These include the new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR screens introduced as replacements for the Pro Display, the new pink iPhone 17e smartphone with MagSafe and double the base storage capacity, updated M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro computers with keyboard changes, and the new iPad Air model with the M4 chip.
