Former Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe reveals about the 'sabotage gang' that disrupts internal work

'Even during my time in service, that unholy alliance operated in the same way. But because I understood it, I removed the fangs of those venomous snakes and carried out my work during my tenure.' These remarks were made today by former Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe, addressing the occasion of welcoming the new Auditor General, Ms. Samudika Jayaratne.

It is as follows.

"I don't think it will be easy to recover the damage caused by that unholy alliance, which emerged from within this very institution, to greatly tarnish the reputation of our esteemed department, which we built by dedicating our lives and time.

While we had established the principle that we only seek out others' shortcomings at an official level, this was completely destroyed, and even the private files of officers within our own institution were released to the media, tarnishing the name not only of the Auditor General but also of the Executive Council of the Audit Office and even the Mahanayaka Theros.

Furthermore, they made false statements to a large number of independent journalists, rendering them helpless. They slandered the President and other valuable officers who applied for this position. They slandered this government as well as the Parliament. We were deeply saddened about how this department could be rebuilt from this slander.

Although this boundary (department) was a forbidden zone for me for seven years, we did everything we could for the department from the outside. It was while we were doing so that this unholy alliance engaged in such activities.

Even during my time, that unholy alliance existed in the same way. But because I understood it, I removed the fangs of those venomous snakes and worked during my tenure. However, unfortunately, over the past four years, those venomous snakes have been fed milk again, grown very well, and are now placed in critical positions.

Therefore, I believe that a very important role has been entrusted to you in carrying out your duties in the new position. You will have to prioritize bringing this department back to its proper place."
