American media points out that Trump 'lied' in his speech celebrating one year since taking office.

American President Donald Trump delivered his annual 'State of the Union' address to Congress on February 24, 2026, one year into his second term. The speech garnered widespread attention amidst recently overturned global tariffs by the Supreme Court, immigration law reforms, and the ongoing crisis with Iran.

However, according to the latest poll released by ABC News, Washington Post, and Ipsos, his popularity has dropped by 60%. He also announced several new measures to boost the economy, targeting the upcoming midterm elections in November. But fact-checking revealed that many of the claims in the President's speech were exaggerated or untrue.

The President's claim that no illegal immigrants were allowed to enter America in the past nine months is not entirely true. Customs and Border Protection data show that the record 1.5 million immigrants during the Biden administration has decreased to less than 28,000 in 2025 due to the Trump administration's strict policies. However, that figure has never been zero, and the number of people attempting to cross the border has not completely stopped.

His claim that inflation was brought to its lowest level in the past five years under his administration shows mixed results. It is true that inflation, which was 3% when he took office, has now decreased to 2.4%. However, due to imposed tariffs, prices of everyday consumer goods have increased, with coffee powder prices specifically rising by 34% in the past year. Additionally, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that energy costs have increased by 6.3% from January 2025 to January 2026 due to data centers required to power artificial intelligence technologies.

Trump's claim of bringing in $18 trillion in investments from countries worldwide within 12 months is also without any evidence. With the total US Gross Domestic Product being only about $31 trillion, even the White House website states that the total domestic and foreign investments secured during his second term amount to only $9.6 trillion. It appears that statistics like the $1.2 trillion economic exchange with Qatar have been presented as direct investments to inflate these figures.

Commenting on the healthcare sector, he stated that America's drug prices, which were among the highest in the world, have been brought down to the lowest level globally, but this requires further clarification. It is true that drug prices in America are 2.7 to 4.2 times higher compared to other countries. While prices for some IVF and weight-loss drugs have decreased to some extent, overall prices in the American pharmaceutical market remain high. Furthermore, health experts point out that the most significant drug price reductions recently are largely due to older regulations, such as the Inflation Reduction Act signed by Joe Biden. Although the President announced that under the Great Healthcare Plan, payments to insurance companies would cease, and people would directly receive money to purchase healthcare facilities, the White House has not yet presented any clear plan on how these funds will be sourced or distributed.

His statement about illegal immigrants preventing drug traffickers and murderers from leaving the country also does not align with data. As of February 7, 73% of the 68,289 individuals in detention camps had no proven criminal charges against them, with only 26% being convicted. His claims about election fraud are also false, as confirmed by 2024 election data. In Georgia, with 8.2 million registered voters, non-citizens voted on only 9 occasions, and in Iowa, only 87 such instances were reported. The Center for Election Innovation & Research states that this cannot be called complete election fraud.

His claim that crime in Washington D.C. has reached its lowest level in history and that murders decreased by nearly 100% in January is also an exaggeration. While it is true that violent crime decreased by 29% and murders by 67% as of February 24, two murders were reported in January. Last year at this time, 27 murders were reported, and this year it has decreased to 9. However, this trend of decreasing crime began even before the Trump administration called in federal security forces last August.

Trump's claim that Iran's nuclear program was completely destroyed is also largely false. Although it suffered severe damage from attacks last June, Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that Iran still possesses approximately 972 pounds of highly enriched uranium. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff also stated that Iran is only about a week away from producing the material needed to make atomic bombs. Furthermore, Trump's assertion that Iran has never stated it would not produce a nuclear weapon is completely false. Iranian leaders, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi, have publicly stated on several occasions that their country has no intention of producing nuclear weapons.

The President's claim of ending eight wars in his first ten months is also unacceptable. Although the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand temporarily ceased, fighting resumed in December 2025. The peace agreement signed between Congo and Rwanda has also broken down, and India has rejected Trump's contribution to establishing peace between India and Pakistan. However, his diplomatic intervention in establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is recognized as a clear success.

His claim that the Somali community has stolen $19 billion of American taxpayers' money is baseless. This appears to be a misunderstanding of a statement made by Assistant US Attorney Joe Thompson in December 2025. While 82 Somali-Americans have been charged in connection with a fraud of approximately $300 million from a food aid program during the COVID pandemic, this represents a very small percentage of the approximately one hundred thousand legal Somali-American citizens living in Minnesota.
