Serious charges against Arjuna Ranatunga

arguna-charged

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate on January 22 that indictments have been filed before the Colombo High Court against former Minister of Petroleum, Arjuna Ranatunga, and his brother Dhammika Ranatunga, who is a former chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

These facts were revealed when the case was called regarding the request to temporarily lift the travel ban imposed on Mr. Dhammika Ranatunga.

This lawsuit has been filed alleging that the government incurred a loss of Rs. 800 million due to arbitrary fuel purchases made in disregard of presidential directives.

This loss occurred by canceling three long-term tenders that were scheduled for the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to purchase fuel for a six-month period between 2017 and 2018, and instead implementing twenty-seven spot tenders at higher prices.
