Doctors at the National Eye Hospital in Colombo have decided to engage in a symbolic strike today (22) with the aim of protesting against the irregular transfer process within the medical administration system. Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, media spokesperson for the Government Medical Officers' Association, confirmed this, stating that arrangements have been made to commence this trade union action from 8:00 AM today.

In light of this situation, the ongoing strike in hospitals in the Eastern Province will be continued, and the association accuses authorities of failing to fulfill the promises previously made by the government regarding the doctors' allowance issue. In response, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe further stated that plans have been made to commence a continuous major strike covering hospitals island-wide starting tomorrow (23).

It is reported that due to these trade union actions carried out by doctors, daily clinical activities and outpatient treatment services in hospitals may be disrupted, and as a result, there is a risk that the general public seeking treatment will face severe difficulties.
