The Railway Department has taken steps to resume train services on the Puttalam railway line, which was obstructed due to adverse weather conditions affecting Sri Lanka in late November, starting tomorrow, December 29, 2025. Train services between Colombo Fort and Chilaw had been completely halted due to the washing away of the track near the Kadupitiya railway bridge, located between Kudawewa and Madampe railway stations, following the rains in recent days.
Due to this emergency disaster situation, approximately 05 train sets had to be parked at Chilaw railway station, and train services were limited only up to Lunuwila railway station.As the damaged section of the railway line has now been completely repaired, train services between Colombo Fort and Chilaw will resume as usual from tomorrow. Accordingly, train schedules for morning and evening services have also been announced for the convenience of office commuters. Five morning trains will operate from Chilaw to Colombo Fort, with the train departing Chilaw at 04:20 AM scheduled to arrive at Colombo Fort at 07:05 AM. Similarly, the train departing at 04:50 AM will arrive at 07:40 AM, and the train departing at 05:30 AM will arrive at 07:30 AM at Colombo Fort. Furthermore, trains departing Chilaw at 05:50 AM and 06:10 AM are scheduled to reach Colombo Fort by 08:20 AM and 09:00 AM respectively.
Five evening train services will also operate from Colombo Fort to Chilaw. Accordingly, the train departing Colombo at 04:30 PM will arrive at Chilaw at 07:15 PM, and the train departing at 04:45 PM will reach its destination at 06:45 PM. The train departing Colombo at 05:18 PM is scheduled to arrive at Chilaw at 07:45 PM. Additionally, trains departing Colombo Fort at 06:10 PM and 07:10 PM will reach Chilaw railway station at 08:44 PM and 09:50 PM respectively.
In addition to this new timetable, the Railway Department also informs the public that office trains operating between Colombo Fort and Negombo during morning and evening hours will run as usual.
