Yellow-tailed deer stolen from Dehiwala Zoo

 The only Yellow Anaconda cub in the country, which was safely housed at the Dehiwala National Zoological Gardens, has been stolen by an unknown individual.



Regarding this disappearance, the Zoo management took steps to lodge a complaint with the Dehiwala Police Station on the 7th of last month.

A few days ago, six snakes belonging to four different species, which a woman had illegally brought into the country from a foreign country, were seized by Katunayake Airport officials, and


Subsequently, these animals were handed over to the Dehiwala Zoo.

Following their handover, this theft occurred while they were undergoing quarantine in the reptile garden of the zoo. The stolen Yellow Anaconda cub is approximately one year old and is reported to be about one and a half to two feet long.

Commenting on this matter, Zoo Director General, Veterinary Surgeon Chandana Rajapaksa stated that a complaint has been lodged with the police regarding the incident, and additionally, disciplinary action will be taken against the animal keeper responsible for these animals.
