Opposition Leader Meets Russian Ambassador to Discuss Public Relief Efforts

 A special meeting was held yesterday (09) at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Colombo between the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Sajith Premadasa, and the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Levan Dzhagaryan, with the aim of providing relief to the people of this country affected and distressed by the 'Ditwa' cyclone.



During the meeting, the Leader of the Opposition briefed the Russian Ambassador on the current disaster situation and the challenges faced by the people. He sought the Russian government's cooperation to restore the railway lines and road network destroyed by the cyclone, develop other damaged infrastructure, and revive the disrupted lives of the people.


Mr. Sajith Premadasa conveyed this request to the Ambassador.

The Leader of the Opposition also took this opportunity to express his gratitude to the Russian Ambassador, on behalf of all Sri Lankan people, for the assistance provided by Russia during this difficult time. He further pointed out that strengthening the existing trade relations and cooperation between the two countries as long-standing friends would provide significant strength to rebuild the economically struggling nation.
