Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions and severe floods caused by torrential rains, the main Nayaru Bridge in Mullaitivu has completely collapsed. The Mullaitivu Disaster Management Centre confirmed that the bridge, constructed across the Nayaru Lagoon, was swept away after its embankments broke under the intense water flow.

It is reported that with the collapse of this bridge, all traffic and transportation activities along that route have been completely disrupted.

Specifically, all transport links, including vehicular traffic, from Mullaitivu to Weli Oya, from Mullaitivu to Trincomalee, and also to the Kokkilai area, have now come to a complete standstill.

The damage to the bridge occurred because the water flow in the Nayaru area has risen significantly above normal levels, further exacerbating the distress of local residents. While information regarding disaster situations in the Northern Province is usually limited, this incident clearly highlights the precarious situation and the difficulties faced by the people in the area.
