MP Ashoka Ranwala Arrested

 

National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament and former Speaker, Mr. Ashoka Ranwala, was arrested this afternoon (12) by the Sapugaskanda Police. The arrest was made on charges of dangerous driving and failing to prevent an accident.

How the Accident Occurred

According to the official statement issued by the Sapugaskanda Police, this road accident took place yesterday (11) Thursday afternoon in the Denimalla area of Sapugaskanda.

Condition of the Victims

Three individuals from the same family were affected by this accident.

25-year-old young mother: Underwent surgery at the Colombo National Hospital due to injuries sustained and is currently receiving inpatient treatment in Ward 73 of the same hospital.

55-year-old grandmother: Suffered a fractured leg and is also receiving inpatient treatment in Ward 73 of the Colombo National Hospital after undergoing surgery.

7-month-old infant: Admitted to Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children and has undergone CT scans of the head and intestines. Further information regarding the infant's current health condition has not yet been released.

The father of the seven-month-old infant involved in the accident expressed his deep sorrow regarding the incident to the media. His statement highlights the profound human dimension of this event.

The MP's Condition

Member of Parliament Ashoka Ranwala is currently receiving inpatient treatment at the Colombo National Hospital under police protection. Detailed information regarding the injuries he sustained in the accident has not yet been officially released.
