Body of Netuki, Missing in Landslide, Recovered

 The body of a young girl, who went missing in the landslide that occurred on November 27 in the Berannawa, Thennawatta area, belonging to the Yatiyanthota Divisional Secretariat, was found yesterday (14) afternoon. The deceased has been identified as seven-year-old Nethuki Sahanya, who was studying in the second grade at Berannawa Maha Vidyalaya.

The body was discovered when a dog was seen lingering near the site while road-clearing operations were underway on the road leading from Thennawatta to Pathenagala, prompting closer inspection.

Yatiyanthota Police confirmed that the girl's body was found buried under the branches of a Kithul tree during further searches conducted by the people present at the location.

In the unfortunate landslide incident that occurred on the afternoon of the 27th, all family members of the girl – her mother, father, younger brother, and grandmother – were buried under the earth. The girl's mother's body was recovered two days after the accident, but the bodies of her father, brother, and grandmother have not yet been found.

Police further stated that the girl's body, recovered from the incident site, has been taken to Karawanella Hospital for post-mortem examination.
