The dead body of an infant was found yesterday (29) inside a shed belonging to a shop located at Diviyawala Junction, Kuliyapitiya. Kuliyapitiya Headquarters Police stated that the infant's body was discovered when someone went to feed puppies that a stray dog had left in the shed.
This infant, approximately five days old, was found deceased without two legs and one arm. Police suspect that animals might have consumed them at the place where the infant was abandoned. Police further believe that this infant, who had been abandoned somewhere, was brought by a female dog and left in the shed.
After informing the Police 119 emergency hotline about the incident, a police team led by Sub-Inspector R.M.U. Rathnayake, OIC of the Criminal Investigation Division of Kuliyapitiya Headquarters Police, arrived at the scene. The infant's body was taken into police custody and handed over yesterday evening to Dr. Ajith Jayasena, Chief Judicial Medical Officer and Specialist Doctor at Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital, for a post-mortem examination. It is also reported that no information regarding the mother who gave birth to this infant has been revealed to the police yet.
