12 Arrested for Exploiting Disaster Victims

 The police have launched extensive investigations to apprehend individuals who steal and loot aid intended for people affected during disaster situations. Already, twelve individuals involved in such activities have been taken into police custody, and based on various evidence including video footage,

strict legal action will be taken against these suspects, Police Media Spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police Udayakumara Wuttler stated.


In addition, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a separate investigation into individuals attempting to destabilize and panic the public by spreading false information regarding disaster situations via social media. A senior official confirmed that the CID has already received over seventy complaints regarding these false propagandas.

Statements have already been recorded from a significant number of individuals who shared false information via social media,


and they have stated to investigating officers that they shared the information among their friends without knowing it was false.
